The Legendary Northgate
The Northgate Noise Box set is a collection of 51 all-time favorites including
Texas music, classic country and southern rock.
The Northgate District is an urban neighborhood that sits right across the street from the
Texas A&M University campus. One of the oldest areas in College Station, Northgate is one of three original
neighborhoods that developed near the University. It has served College Station and Texas A&M University
since 1938. That same year, the city was incorporated and the Northgate District became the site of the first
City Hall. This 145-acre area hosts bookstores, restaurants, and barbershops; however, it is most famous for
its strip of bars.
Both young and old gather at Shadow Canyon, Fitzwilley's, The Dry Bean Saloon, The Dixie Chicken,
Dudley's Draw, Coupe Deville and The Crooked Path to partake in the excitement and exuberance of Northgate.
Two of the largest attractions at Northgate are Bottle Cap Alley, which is a pathway consisting of tossed out
bottle caps, and The Dixie Chicken, which is known to sell more beer per square foot than any other
establishment in the world. Northgate's popularity is driven by music. Day in and day out people can listen to
the tunes of George Jones, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Robert Earl Keen, Jr. just to name a few. On
evenings people can listen to the strum of guitars coming from aspiring new artists. The music of Northgate is
not just a popular pastime in College Station; its part of tradition.
"Northgate....where friends are as plentiful as beer....where dominoes and pool are considered a REAL
sport....where classic country music never dies, and where carving your name in the tables and walls is expected."
